Leadership can be about anything a person thinks, feels or does that involves showing or taking initiative. This can be for one’s own purpose to achieve, in relationship with others as in leading a team and for the greater-good through an organization’s purpose or product. Leadership is about being more of oneself in any or all of the above contexts.
Leadership learning is about accessing motivations and behaviours that bring more of self to situations and people. The demands of authentic leadership often require people to dig deeper into themselves – identifying and developing resilience and new behaviours – including some previously unknown to them.
A measure of a leader is someone who is able to synthesise and integrate attitudes and behaviours in themselves and bring them into right relationship with others.
Intention in leadership is important. Leadership development always involves matching new behaviours with the organizational value base.
As counsellors and leadership and group coaches we are experienced and skilled in the facilitation of leadership learning.
